Аннотация
This is the third in the series of articles by the same author devoted to the Union League movement during the American Civil War. It deals with the growth of the political influence of the movement as the country entered its third year of the war. The success of the Union electoral ticket in 1863 was instrumental in gaining for the League political stature alongside that of the Union party itself. In 1864 the National League threw its enthusiastic support toward electing Lincoln to the highest civil office in the nation. The persistent efforts of a lot of local leagues in upbringing the American people “to a more earnest and consolidated patriotism” brought about “the momentous and grandest political success” at 1864 election.
