Раздел земель Запада и общенациональный кризис в США, 1857–1860 гг.
Аннотация
The article points out the importance of people’s struggle for Public Domain among other pre-Civil War deep national urges, basic economic and social cleavages. It argues that these fundamental shifts formed complex social reality in the U.S. and lead to the national crisis. An understanding of vital significance of the movement for free land is essential to an analysis of Civil War causation. The interpretation is based on the research of the documents from the National Archives, «The Congressional Globe» and memoirs. The text continues the essay «The Land Issue at the U.S. Congress in the Middle of the XIX Century» published in the previous Yearbook.
