Аннотация
The article focuses upon the Federal Union soldiers’ letters of Civil War period. Their private viewpoints, appraisals, opinions and remarks show the plain Northerners’ attitudes towards and thoughts about the causes of the War, the necessity to preserve the Union, about their military service and hopes for the future. This historical source represents a mix of political and military judgements combined with most personal feelings and dreams.
