Americans have a veritable bible of foreign affairs. It always has been a constituent part of the American Dream, or otherwise a part of the mainstream of American ethics, moral, religious and intellectual life. The Old Paradigm, which dominated U.S. diplomacy in the nineteenth century and revealed itself fully at the eve of the XX century, was designed to deny the other world the chance to reshape America and to enlist it into the world system invented by European powers. The New Paradigm, which has dominated U.S. diplomacy in the XX Century, was designed to give America the chance to redeem the world by realizing the idea of global americanizm or progressive, nontraditional imperialism (“The Empire by Invitation”).
