Аннотация
The article is dedicated to the problem of public virtue in the American Revolution, its characteristic features and its contradictions. Researching mainly the letters of John Adams, Abigail Adams and their close friends, the author tries to show the different ethical traditions that existed in the revolutionary America and to single out the main qualities of the ideal type of American Whigs.
