This article is dedicated to one of the most colourful persons of Russian merchantship of the 18th century Ivan Larionovich Golikov, the «first Founder» of the Russian-American Company. The work is based mainly on the unpublished sources from the Kursk Archives and shows this large merchant’s image both in his family and in business. Special attention is paid to a disagreement between I.L. Golikov and his famous companion G.I. Shelikhov.
