Русские и американцы на “границе”: отношения с аборигенами
Аннотация
A comparison of the Russian and American relations with the indigenous peoples in Siberia and the West in the second half of the 19-th century reveals the similarities as well as distinctions. Both countries tried to civilize and assimilate the natives although their aims were different. The Americans wanted to occupy Indian lands; Russian government intended to increase tribute. Nevertheless the consequences of two different types of colonization for the natives were the same. The Russians and Americans brought them extinction and destruction of the environment.
