Ирландский революционер в США: Томас Девин Райлли и “Молодая Америка”
Аннотация
American period of the life of the “Young Irelander” Thomas Devin Reilly is analyzed. In his articles in the “American Whig Review” (late 1850–1851) and the “Democratic Review” (1852) Reilly called for adoption of the constant policy with regards to European democracies. Ideological and economic considerations, national prejudices made impact on his view of the U.S. policy towards revolutions in the Old World in mid-19th century. He supported filibuster expeditions to Cuba; his attitude towards “the pearl of Antilles” was defined by gender rhetoric of American masculinity – “martial manhood”, in Amy Greenberg’s words.
