Whatever Happened to the Cold War?: The text is based on the paper presented to the conference at El Paso (University of Texas) in February, 1994. Continues the discussion with Walter LaFeber around the origins of the Cold War. Broadens the chronological scope, down to the present. Examines the main trends in American historiography of the Cold War as of the most significant period in the American—Soviet relations. Concludes that meanwhile the Cold War has gone the conflict itself will not go away. This conflict may arise from economic interests, within the developed world or across the boundary between North and South. Asks the question whether the US will have enough will, wisdom and ability to answer to the new challenges.
