This periodical was published by Russian Orthodox Church and, as a source on the history of Russian America, was almost totally ignored by americanists. The magazine published historical, statistical, chronological and biographical materials, series of articles on the dissemination of the Christianity by the Russian Orthodox Church missions in the Far East and the Russian America. The enterprising activities of G. Shelikhov in Russian America and his role in the conversion of the natives to Christianity are of great special interest. Many materials are connected with the name of the Metropolitan Innokentii (Veniaminov). «The Irkutsk Eparchical News» may be considered as important additional source which broadens the understanding of the history of Russian Orthodox Church in America.
