The article is devoted to the English and French colonial activity in the Atlantic region of Canada (the territory of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick) in 1620–1630s. It analyses the William Alexander’s attempt to found a Scottish plantation in this area and its fall. Special attention is given to the Anglo-French rivalry on the Nova Scotia peninsula during the war of 1628–1629 and its place in the post-war relations of the two powers. The article also deals with French Governor Charles de la Tour’s role in these events.
