Не только граница: значение Фредерика Джексона Тернера для исследования ранней республики
Аннотация
Frederick Jackson Turner built his reputation on a poetic essay he wrote for the World Colombian Exposition in 1893, «The Significance of the Frontier in American History». Today he is remembered almost only for this, because he published only one book in his life time other than two collections of his essays on the frontier and sectionalism. His «great work” remained unfinished at his death. In this essay Professor William G. Shade urges readers to go back and look at the entire body of Turner’s work, especially «The United States, 1830-1850», to understand why Turner’s reputation as a superb historian was well-deserved and why he was a pioneer in the practice of historical science.
