Аннотация

The article of Victoria Zhuravleva and Ivan Kurilla is an invitation to a discussion about achievements and shortcomings of contemporary American Studies in Russia. While the academic level of the recent books and articles of Russian historians is still pretty high, there is also a need for the adjustment of the study of the USA to the demands of American Studies programs in University and requirements of broader public. One of the urgent needs is a discussion on the methods and methodology of the American Studies. The authors offer their opinion concerning possible themes for future works, formulate the need of university professors for text books and readers on US history as well as suggest better institutional framing of the field in Russia. The new journal (probably in electronic form) and the restructured American Studies association should become the major tool in the creation of a comprehensive and active professional organization.
